Owing to pressure on our space, the Bye-law of the Borough Council has been held over until next issue. The out-going mail for America and Europe pers.s. ' Cyphrenes'closes at the Thames at 2,30 p.m. on Monday. It is stated (says a Wellington correspondent) that Mr Reader Wood will bring forward the motion to consolidate the North Island and to federalise the Wellington Government. It will probably be opposed, the time not being considered opportune. The Foley Magnet Troupe performed again at the Theatre Royal (last night before a moderate audience. The members went through their various roles with an address and care which, while it entitled them to better patronage, gave the utmost satisfaction to those present. Two comedies were produced very successfully, and the interlude of singing and dancing afforded variety. The entertainment closed with perilous feats on the tight wire by Master John and Miss KatejFoley. The Coromandel gold returns for the month are, in round numbers, 1,32G0z5, as follows Tokatea, 3490zs sdwts; City of Auckland, 3G9ozs 12dwts; Union Beach, 113ozs 16dwts 12grs; Who'd-have-thought-it, 58ozs 7dwts Ggrj; Bismarck, siy 25ozs; Tiernan and fleenan, trial prrcel, sozs; Neptune, trial parcel, sozs; small lodgments, both banks, including berdans, &c., 80ozs: Tokatea, yesterday's lodgment, 32Gozs. The s.s. ' Southern Cross,' Captain Holmes, arrived off Tararu yesterday morniug from Napier with a cargo of fat stock to the order of Messrs, Banks and Co. She left Napier on Wednesday evening, and made a smart run across, bringing 55 head of cattle and 254%heep in good condition. She reports the s, s. ' Pretty Jane' leaving on the previous day for Auckland via Poverty Bay, with a cargo of fat stock, The dividends paid since the publication of our last summary have been confined to the Queen of Beauty and the Manukau Gold Mining Company. • The former is a claim consisting of seven mens' ground, and the yield for the last fortnight's cleaning up and retorting gave a dividend of £13310s per full share, or £934 103 for seven shares. The previous month's yield was appropriated to the purchase of s battery. The Manukau G.M.O. has paid £6,000, being £1 per share on 6,000 shares. These were uatil recently held by three shareholders, but one of them had parted with some of his interest before the payment of the dividend. The Commissioners' of Insurance and Annuities report shows 1,465 new insurance policies granted for the year ending June 30,1874, with premiums of £40,788 and aunuities of £450 and £2,140, representing annual policies to annuitants 0f.£283. The interest accrued is £2,331; finesand fees received, £23; total of former, representing £403,260; of amount insured, £3,650; of endowment paid, £283, and only payable for 1873. > The premiums, &c,, received were £31,490; iiT 1872, £18,100; in 1871, £7,151; and in 1870, £357 ; total, £102,835, representing £1,588,909 as the sum insured; £10,150 contingent endowments; and £1,234 annuities payable yearly,—Correspondent Gross,
