Macfarlane occupied all day in the Police Court, and / has not yet concluded. Thomas Craig, the principal witness, deposed that he remembered news coming at the end of October, 1870, that Harris had seized certain log 3 at Wangapoua. Saw J. S. Macfarlane about the matter. him -daily about that time. Had a conversation with him about the logs in his office in Queen-street. After consultation wo came to tho conclusion that it was best to get a good men to go down and take possession of the logs by forco. Eeference was then made to young Harris. If he was there and obstructed, the order was to shoot him down. Young Harris was particularly mentioned. It was the defendant who made the suggestions to shoot Harris. It was often mentioned. He said he had such power both with the bank, the jury, and the Government that he could get me off. The proposition was made frequently, It was said seriously, and was brought up 1 too often to be in a joking way. I was to go down with men that were to be hired. I was to hire men and tell them if tbey would not fight for the logs they were not to go. About twenty men were hired. At this time I was a bankrupt, and had assigned all my property over to J. 8. The Tokatea cleaned up after nine days' crushing at the Whakaroa battery, for a yield of 50ozs 18dwts retorted gold. —The Union Beach got 52lbs of rich ■ specimens yesterday, and nearly the same quantity to-day from the western stope. More are expected.-Tho Royal Oak got a good parcel of specimens^to-day.— The City of Auckland also got a small parcel of specimens and picked stone this morning.— The .Yan have finished crushing, but the result is not yet known,—There is great excitement regarding the Waikoromiko. Five different parties are having the same ground surveyed, preparatory to applying for a lease. Of course [a, law-suit will follow. Numbers of claims are being ; marked out in the locality. Main's claim is not yet opened, The men are building whares. Taubanga, Friday. A commotion through the town was caused on the arrival of To Hura, a respected chief, returning home after an absence of eight years. He was escorted by the immediate members of the King's family, numbering forty. All the Ngaeterangi tribe assembled here to greet them, tho Government paying the piper.
