Six men left here to-day in the barque 'Edwin Bassett' for the Palmer Eiver diggings. They are to report, and if favourable, many more will follow.Eleven tenders were • received to-day for rthe reclamation of 49 acres of land near the Government buildings.—The population of the province is over twenty thousand, and the papers are not all in. The population of the city is nearly eleven thousand,—£loo per foot was refused today for laud on the beach.—All the tradesmen amongst the ' WoodlarkV immigrants readily found employment to-day. A large number, are Fielding colonists, and leave for Manawafcu this evening. — IJ. McAllister, late of the General Government Audit Department, is appointed. Provincial Auditor of Wellington.—The following,. ..bills which passed the Auckland Provincial Counoil last session have been laid before the Governor, who has not been advised to exercise his power of disallowance regarding them:—. Mangapiko Road Act; Wharehine Ebad Act;. Temperance Hall Site. Sale Act; Hauraki District Fire Eate Amendment Act; Mechanics' Institute Site Sale Act; Mount Eden Eoad Act; Mount Albert Eoad Act; Empowering Act; Appropriation Act No. 2. New Plymouth, Thursday. The' Go-ahead' sails for Manukau on Friday, at :10 a.m. Arrived: the ' Phoebe,' from the Manukau. She started again at 9: a.m. for Nelson.—Mr Holloway, now in Otago, is to be specially invited to this province to. report on its advantages for immigration. A sum of money has been voted to pay his expenses whilst here,—The Council has adjourned till together by the Speaker.
