REPORTED DISCOVERY OF ALLUVIAL GOLD NEAR LAKE TAUPO.
A gentleman at Shortland received a ietter yesterday from a correspondent at Tapuaeharuru, near Lake Taupo, in which the writer says: —“ An acquaintance of mine, an old West Coast digger, started yesterday to see the Superintendent. He stated to me that he has found alluvial gold, and intends to make the details of the discovery public, if so advised.” From time to time we hear reports of the existance of alluvial gold in the locality indicated, and it is not unlikely that this discovery may lead to important results.
