FATAL ACCIDENT AT THE UPPER THAMES.
We deeply regret to hear that a fatal accident occurred yesterday on the Upper Thames, by the upsetting of a canoe, by which two children, one a girl about 12 years of age, and another a little younger, the son and daughter of Mr J. W. R. Guilding, the well-known native Interpreter and agent, were drowned. The children, accompanied by their aunt, were coming to the Thames, on their way to Auckland, to be placed at school. The aunt managed to swim ashore, but the children (who could swim also, we believe) were not so fortunate. Mr Guilding proceeded to the scene of the sacj occurrence yesterday, and, on his return, ■ome further particulars of this melancholy event may be gleaned.
