THE ESCAPED CONVICT ROBINSON.

HIS DEPARTURE FROM NEW ZEALAND. We yesterday learned on very reliable authority that the con’vict Robinson, who was supposed to have been phot and to have died in the Waitakere Bush, after being wound d by Detective Jefferies some time since, is still in the land of the living, and pretty safe from the clutches of the law for this time. After very many narrow escapes from capture, and a good deal of hardship, Robinson, it seems, made Hokianga, where he had some friends, with whom he remained for a short time. He went to work on board of a brig in the harbour, and after he had been there for three days, the local policeman got wind of it, and tried to capture him. Robinson, however, did not see the fun of being brought back to Mount Eden, and presented a revolver at the man, at the same time giving him to understand that he meant not to be taken easily. Tho limb of tho law was worsted, for before lie could take further measures for securing bis man, the latter had managed to get on board of a brig bound outwards, and was soon clear of the Now Zealand Police Force. Robinson’B career in this colony was not a very brilliant one. He first of all deserted from one of the regiments, and went to work for some old pensioner, who, failing to pay him his wages, he helped himself to the t mrloyer’s money, and also to most of his clothes. He afterwards forced one of onr settlers to exchange lotlies with him against his will, and at lust wus hip sted after a series of burglaries. Now, however, it fijems that the colony is rid of him for the present at least.
