RUMOURED DEATH OF MR. MANING.
Yesterday’s Cross in referring to tbe report concerning the death of Mr Man-. ing.says .... •>, “ We have received contradictions from various sources of the report circulated at •the‘Thames-relative to the supposed death of Mf Manrng, and communicated to us by our Thames correspondent. Mr J Reid (late of Hokianga) informs us that when ju Melbourne, at tbe beginning of the present month, lie met aud spoke with Mr Maning.. Wo are also indebted to the courtesy pf the Westport Times for further information on the subject. A telegram from them yesterday afternoon states :— ‘ Mr Maning is not here. There is no report circulated in Westport that lie lias been killed in a wrestling-match.’” [Whoever circulated the. report that Mr Maniug was killed,, committed a most unmanly and cowardly act, as that gentleman lias relations in the province who would naturally be much alarmed at the report. Did we know the perpetrator of the canard we would have great pleasure in exposing the rascal.—Ed. T. G.]
