She left Melbourne on the 20th, and brings the following passengers :—Five for Hokitika, Mr Middleton for Greymoutb, Mrs Small and child for Nelson, the Hon. Matthew, Mrs, and Miss Holmes ; for Wellington, Mr Davidson for Lyttelton, Mr Jones for Dunedin ; and 220 tons of cargo for all ports. MELBOURNE. July 20. The Treasurer made bis financial statement on Tuesday night, and stated that the total, revenue for the year ending June 30th, amounted to £3,727,150, an income that had never before been realised in the colony. The return showed an apparent increase of £188,300 over the estimate of his predecessor. The Customs revenue showed a falling off from the estimate of £33,500. The estimated income for the present year was £3,611,920, and the expenditure £3,708,938, leaving £8,217 to be carried next year’s account. The Commercial Bank have declared a dividend and bonus equal to seventeen per cent. The City Bank have declared a dividend of six per cent. ADELAIDE. Owing to the illness of a coal trimmer on board the Rangatira, from Sydney, the passengers have not been allowed to land, but were taken on with the cargo to St. George’s Sound. A new vaccination bill lias been introduced, and passed all the stages. It makes vaccination compulsory, under a penalty of £2. i \ Kirikey has returned to Tennant’s Creek from Daly Waters,'and reports that the cable is still unworkable. It is supposed that the congratulatory and other messages have been taken on to Java by the investigators. Lady Daly, the.widow of the late Governor, died aged 71. A report of the Meat Preserving Company shows £16,000 assets over liabilities. A further message from Todd states that lie hopes to liave .communication reestablished with tlie cable next week. The Kadina and Wallaroo railway shows a profit of nearly £9,000 for the halfyear. 1
