SHORTLAND FIRE RELIEF FUND.
To tbc Editors o£ the Gi'akimA.v, Advertiser, and livening Star. Gentlemen, —Mr J. C. Y r oung, as Secretary to the Shortland Fire Relief Fumi Committee, has addressed a circular to the clergy of llie district, asking a." special collection" at the various places of worship in aid of tlie " Shortland Fire Relief Fund." Since thnt circular was issued the public has, through other channels, so liberally contributed that it appears to several members of the Committee that the assistance asked may possibly lie dispensed with, but as those, at the request of whom I now write, have not at tne moment, time to obtain the authority of their fellow-committee to absolutely withdraw the application, 1 venture to suggest to the clergy that they should defer acting on Mr Young's request until after the meeting of the Committee next Wednesday, when its views, according to the then existing circumstances, could be communicated to the public.—l am, &c\, J. E. Magdonald, Chairman of the Committee.
