THEATRE ROYAL.

Last night the comedy of “ New M< n and Old Acres” was put ou the boards of the Royal, aud we must certainly say that it is one of the best modern comedies we have seen. The character of Oid Banter was admirably played by Mr Joyce. The new man Brown was placed in Mr Hoskins' hands, and Lilian Vasavour was entrusted to Miss Colville. Both, we need hardly say, were played to the life. Mrs II ill, as Lady Vasavour, and Mrs Jones as Airs Maria Banter were capital, and the piece went exceedingly' well throughout. To-night a great bill is announced, a fresh attraction being offered in the persons of Madame Theresc and Mods. Schmidt, the celebrated dancers, who take part in “The Painter’s Illusion,” and also in some dances afterwards. These artistes have gained a great reputation in the colonies, and we expect to see something far above the usual. The performance commences with a farce entitled “ Book the 3rd, Chapter the Ist,” by Mr Hoskins, Aliss Colville, and Mr Clinton ; and the entertainment will he concluded with “ The Serious Family,” an ever favourite piece. On Friday', “Hamlet” will bo played on the occasion of Air Iloskin’s benefit, the Ghost being taken by Air Perrier, Air Hoskins, Hamlet.
