The Cross of yesterday has the following telegrams, which passed between the Mayors of Auckland and Wellington, frith respect to the regulations which the Board of Health wished to impose on vessels arriving in Wellington from Auckland : —His Worship the Mayor received the following telegram from the Mayor of Wellington ou Saturday : — 1 At the request of Mr Williamson, and for your information, I send a telegram to say that, in my opinion, Auckland will not be declared an infected port at present. I have been requested to call a public meeting, but shall not give an answer until Monday. Ministry considering what steps shall be taken on arrival of steamers from Auckland. —J. Dransfield, Mayor.’ To this Mr Philips sent the following reply:—‘To the Mayor of Wellington : I do not think there is sufficient cause to declare Auckland an infected port. I hope your citizens wll not act hastily. I dissented with the resolution of the Harbour Board about your city (s,ncc rescinded). —P. A. Philips. Mayor.’ ” The Premier also sent the following telegram for public.at'on : " The Government, after taking into consideration the recommendation of fhe Board of Health to place all vessels from Auckland iu quarantine for 24 hours, have come to the conclusion not to adopt the recommendation. This intelligence is communicated to you for publication. because it is generally known here that the Board has made the recommendation alluded to; and intelligence of it, without the knowledge of the decision tlie Government have arrived at, would be calculated to create a false impression, and be productive of inconvenience, not to say unnecessary panic.— William Fox.” A lady iu Paris becoming exasperated at an editor, challenged him; he accepted the challenge, and exasperated the lady still more by naming bodkins as the weapons.
