RIFLE MATCH.

THAMES v AUCKLAND. We are glad to lie able to stale that all the arrangements for the forthcoming match have been satisfactorily concluded. Mr Robinson, the secretary to the match committee, returned from town on Saturday night, after having finally settled everything in connection with the comretilion. The competitors are to fire in two squads, one at 8 a.m., and the oilier ■ at 11 a.m.; and two targets are fo be used, so that there will only lie ten men firing at each, and they will thus lx able to get through the firing expeditiously. The men whom we are sending forth to represent us are by no means a bad lot ; on the contrary, they are all more or less good “ shontists,” and we trust they will be enabled to uphold the honour of the junior Volunteer district against the senior and much larger district of Auckland. Should they win, great credit will be due to them for, as it were, “ bearding the lion in his den,*’ and should they unfortunately lose (which we do not think they will do), they will certainly not he disgraced, as the other side have so much larger a selection to pick from than we have. Some few of the men proceed to town to-day, for the purpose of having a little practice on the range, on Tuesday, which we understand has been placed at their disposal for that day. Arrangements have, we understand, also been made for a steamer, by which those who do not go to-day can travel to-morrow at an earlier hour than the Golden Crown goes. We wish our champions good luck.
