NELSON. Mr O’Connor has withdrawn the action for conspiracy against the members of the Provincial Council, and also vindicated himself at a public meeting. He has also brought forward a motion memorialising the Government for further inquiry, supported by Messrs Luckie and Reid, and carried. Mr O’Connor has relinquished the Westport land, and has had the money returned. CHRISTCHURCH. Mr Brown withdrew the Bill appointing the Superintendent chief of the Executive Council. WANGANUI. A meeting has been convened on Friday. The object is to equip a party of prospectors, to proceed to Tuhua. There are several diggers here waiting an opportunity to proceed. The schooner Kate, and not the Florence, has been beached.
INVERCARGILL. The search party have returned from the West Coast to Riverton. At Looking-glass Bay, they saw traces of a wreck. Between Caswell’s and Thompson’s Sound, they found part of a vessel’s bowsprit and a large quantity of ship’s planking. They discovered some books and papers in two fathoms of watlier, also an old illustrated family Bible, a pair of bead-worked slippers, a broken writing desk, a cheque-book of November, 1871, also some papers which appeared to be an invoice of goods supplied to Whitmore, of Greymouth. They searched all along the coast, but found no more remnants.
