NOT HOLDING A MINER’S RIGHT.

In pursuance of warrant issued by the Warden, Detective Murphy arrested a man named John Goldie yesterday in Grahamstown. The warrant was issued at the instance of the Inspector of Miners’ Eights. It will bo remembered that Goldie was brought before the Warden’s Court some time ago by the Inspector of Miners’ Rights, for being in possession of land within the goldmining district of Hauraki, he not being the holder of a miner’s right. The case was heard, and lie was ordered to pay a penalty of 5s and costs £2 4s. In Court he stated that he had money, but would not pay. He has been sentenced to one month’s imprisonment. When he was arrested sufficient funds were found upon him to pay the amount, but he declined to do so, and consequently he remains in custody. We hope this will bo a warning to all who may be occupying land within the goldfield without miners’ rights, and that they will without delay put themselves beyond the power of the Inspector. We must not be understood as finding fault with Mr Mcllhone, on the contrary, we think that he is not at all disposed to be severe, but, notwithstanding, we advise all parties to comply with the law.
