THE AUSTRALIAN SQUADRON MONUMENT.
The following extract from a letter addressed to the Times by Rear-Admiral Sir William Wiseman relates to this subject: —“ It is quite true that a certain sum has been collected, and a further amount has been promised, for the purpose of erecting a monument to the memory of those of the Naval Brigade who fell during the New Zealand war, but there has been a difficulty ; first, in agreeing upon the exact character of the In Memoriam which should be raised; and secondly, there exists some doubt as to the fittest locality in which it should he placed. I have, however, employed Mr Sang, of Sackvillo Street, the well-known decorative artist, to prepare designs, and he lias already finished one which will in all probability be adopted, and the monument erected this summer.”
