ACCIDENTS.
An accident which fortunately did not result in any very serious consequences happened yesterday morning to a man named Buckland, a miner, who was working somewhere in the neighbourhood, though on what claim we have not been able to ascertain. He was hauFng a bucket of quartz up a winze when the bucket caught and jerked the windlass handle out of his hand, and flying round caught him on the nose, which it completely smashed. Dr. Lethbridge was sent for quickly, and dressed the wound from which the man was suffering considerably.
A nasty accident happened yesterday to a boy named Christie, living up the Moanataiari Creek. The boy is quite a child, only about 7 years of age, and was sent out to chop firewood with an axe. Whilst so doing the axe slipped, and hitting the child near the heel almost cut it off. It eeetns to Us rather careless to send a child of this age to use an axe, as even with a person of more mature years accidents are so liable to happen. Dr. Lethbridge happened to be near at the time, and having sent for the necessary articles sewed up the cut and did all that was necessary for the relief of the sufferer.
