Monday, 8 p.m. A serious accident occurred yesterday in the Kyber Pass Road. It appears that two men accompanied by two young ladies named Lupton, when near the embankment, the horse took fright and backed down the decline, one of the ladies falling out of the trap. She was carried into an adjoining house, and it was found that she had several bones broken. The other occupants of the trap escaped without injury. The Dover, from Lyttelton, with a cargo of grain, has arrived. The cutter Lapwing is announced by telegram as having left Lyttelton for this port with the following cargo on board : barley, 17 bags beans, 13 bags peas. The report from the sub-committee appointed by the City Council to investigate the charge against Councillor Smart was received in the Council to-day, and adopted. It stated that Smart was entitled to hold his seat. The sharemarket was quiet to-day. Sales: Caledonian, £lB 10s; Tharm s, £5 7s 6d ; Moanataiari, £4 17s 6<, £5 cum div.; All Nations, £3 ss; Green Harp, £7 2s 6d; Eldorado, 7s 6d ; Tokatea, £3 15s to £3 17s 6d; Golconda, £2 ss. A meeting of the shareholders of the Pauline G.M.C., was held here to-day. The following gentlemen were elected directors, Messrs. J. F. Clarke, J. Grant, R. D. Thompson, T. Craig, E. B. Robinson. Rules for the guidance of the company were passed, and other business done. A meeting of the shareholders of the Verms, G.M.C. was held at the Queen’s Ferry Hotel to-day. The meeting was a stormy one. It was moved and carried, that the company be re-organised. It was also carried that the directors be authorised to wind up the company, and re-form the same in accordance with the previous resolution. To-morrow at the District Court, the following gold mining companies’ schedules of contributories will be examined and confirmed if correct: Mount Arum, John O’Groats, Extension, Wakatip, Royal Exchange, Golden Crown Extended, Band of Hope, and Colleen Bawn.,
