THE INSURRECTION IN MADRID. THEY ATTACK THE RAILWAY STATION AT SALZONA. WASHINGTON. April 27. The prospects to-day are considered good of being able to complete the business of the House by May 21.
LONDON. April 27, Evening. The Naples correspondent of the I ondon “Telegraph” has visited the ' a ’ions hotels in that city to ascertain i ‘ any of the guests had been injured by the lava from Mount Vesuvius. Ho learnt that none were missing, and that the fatalities had been confined to residents in the villages on the side and base of the volcano. The Tichborne claimant has published a letter to-day thanking the public for their previous subscriptions, and asking that they would raise for him £4,000 to enable him to continue the contest for the possession of the estates. NAPLES. April 27. The eruption of Mount Vesuvius continues with dreadful violence. The lava has already reached the town of Sabastiano, and threatens other towns. ’The explosions from the mountain are constantly being heard at Naples.] There is great consternation amongst the inhabitants of the villages and towns near the mountain.
It is re-asserted that many tourists have been surrounded by lava and have perished. King Victor Emanuel sent out aid to those persons who have been compelled to flee from their homes. NEW YORK, April 27. This morning at five o’clock a large fire occurred in Broadway, by which seven houses were destroyed. The damage by fire and water is estimated at over 300,000 dollars. The stocks were insured for 15,000 dollars. CALCUTTA, April 27. Lord Northbrooke, the new Viceroy, arrived here to-day. WASHINGTON. April 27.
In the House, to-day, an order was made for all sessions in future to commence at 11 o’clock and continue till 5 each day. The Tariff Bill was taken up this afternoon. Senator Itamsay called up his Postal and Telegraph Bills, and spoke at some length in explanation and support of them. Discussion still proceeding. MADRID. April 27. The Carlists, this morning, cut the telegraph wires in many places. In consequence, very few despatches relative to the insurrection have been received. A band of insurgents, this morning, attacked the railway station at Salzona, in the Province of Leida. They were, however, speedily repulsed.
