MINING.

Caledonian. —The yield for the week is larger than might have been expected, as the machine was only at work for about a day and a half. A parcel of specimen stone was reduced, and the total yield was three hundred and three ounces of retorted trold Work has been started in the low # level on the two contracts which we reported yesterday as having been let, and everything in tiie mine is in good order. Una. —The manager yesterday lodged ninety five ounces m the bank, this being the result of seven days’ crushing at the mill, during which time over one hundred and fifty tons of stone were put through. In the low-level tiihnel, quartz lias been touched, but it is not known yet for a certainty whether it is the reef or not. The manager seems to bo of opinion that it is not, whereas one of the directors who inspected it differs from him. If it be not the lode, it is a strong feeder from it. No gold is vissible in the stone, nor is there any water coining fiom the lode. Above, where worked on, there was a large quantity of water coming from the lode. It will very soon, however, he settled as to whether this is the lode or not, as a few feet further driving will

prove it. Now that this tunnel is in, we may expect in a few weeks to have some better returns from this company than they have had lately, though they have been very well off, taking into consideration that whi’e this adit was going in they paid £1,500 in dividends during the six months previous to their last half-yearly meeting, and this 100 from stuff that ran not much more than half ari ounce to the ton.

Deeside. —This lease was sold by auction on Saturday by Mr T. W, Gudgeon for the sum £125, and was bought by Mr Copeland, one of the directors of the Mulunn in Parvo G.M.C., next to whose property it is situated, and to whom the Beeside drive will be of great use in the working of their ground. The bidding was pretty spirited, and it was run up to the price it realised. Sailor’s Dream. —The shareholders of this claim, lately taken up next to the Una, and from which good prospects have been obtained, have lost no time in putting the value of their lode to the test of a battery. They are about to crush a parcel of about seven tons at Martinson’s tesbattery on the Karaka Creek. There are about twenty pounds weight of specimens on hand, some of which are very rich, so that a good return is looked feff*. Prince Imperial. —The crushing which has been going on for this company at the Waiotahi Battery for the last week was finished on Saturday, and has not turned out as well as was expected. About ninety tons were put through, and the result was fifty-eight ounces of gold.
