VOLUNTEERING.
Tiie Rifle Brigade assembled at tlie Volunteer Hall hast evening, but owing to the uripropitious state •>£ the weather none of the companies mustered very well, and the whole was formed into one squad. Major Grant put the men through tlie marching evolutions, &c., and were then dismissed. The following officers were present: — Capts. Goldsmith, Lipsey, Barnett, Williams, and Lieutenant Lechner. ANNUA', MEETING OF TIIE ROYALS. The Royals held their annual meeting immediately after parade la c t evening. The Secretary read the minutes of the previous meeting, which were confirmed, Mr Alderton read the auditors’ report ; the liabilities were £145 19s lOd, assets, £145 Ids sd. The monies now due were, leaving doubtful subscriptions aside, £l2 10s, and extras, chiefly for caps, £7 K's, making a possible balance of £2O ; and the Secretary stated that the capitation for the present year would amount to £139, from which would have to be deducted the Government account for the tweed for uniforms. The following members were elected as a finance committee for the ensuing year Sergeant J. Macd.-nald, Corporal J. Haresnape, Volunteers T. Waite, G. E. Alderton, and R. McGonagli ; lion, member, 11. C. Lawler, Esq., J.R. ; working member, MrThos. Higgins. On the motion of Vol. Alderton, seconded by Vol. Waite, a vote of thanks was passed to Lieut. Lechner, secretary, for the very able and efficient manner in which lie had discharged his duties as secretary for the past year, and lie was unanimously re-instated secretary tor the ensuing year. Mon ’.ay week was the day fixed upon for the company’s rifle match, at which about a dozen prizes will ho given. On the motion of Volunteer Aiderton, seconded hv Volunteer Waite, a vote of thanks was passed to the Finance Committee. A hearty vote of thanks was also passed to the Press for tlie handsome manner in which it supported the Volunteer movement. The meeting terminated after other sundry matters had been discussed.
Meeting of Rangers. At a meeting of the Rangers held last evening at tlie Camden Hotel, it is proposed to hold a drill once a week for noncommissioned officers, so that they maybe able to drill their juniors better. TIIE BAND. The captains of the different companies have each received a letter from the Band Liquidation Debt Committee, stating that the liabilities had been reduced to £3O, and calling on each of the captains to subscribe £5 each to liquidate the debt, which we have not the slightest doubt hut that the various c unpanies will gladly respond to. By this means the hand will he re-formed by the Queen’s Birthday.
