MINING.

Junction Tribute (Austin and Party). —The clean up which took place for these tiibuters at the Herald Battery on Monday evening lias resulted in a leturn of sixteen ounces two pennyweights twelve grains of melted gold from twenty-five tons crushed. Central Italy. —Fifty-six feet out of the sixty contracted for have been added to the depth of the shaft, making it three hundred and twenty feet deep altogether. The directors have resolved to continue sinking for the present, as they are of opinion that the reef sought for must be close at hand ; in fact, they calculated on getting it in the present contract. The water does not trouble them, and the country is good working ground. Alburxia. —The low-level tunnel lias now been driven . hvough the hard dimitc bar in which it has run for some distance, and excellent country is now in hand, with every indication of a lode being close at hand ; in fact, it was reported last night that a lode had been struck, but this requires confirmation. Golden Crown. —The tributers of this company have again been takmg some good stone from the small leader which we have before reported as being in band alongside their reef. Red Queen. —Crushing for this claim will be commenced at the Prince Alfred Battery as soon as the Cure company have finished. There arc some ten tons from the large reef to go through, and about fifty tons from the leader, which is expected to yield veiy well indeed. Moanataiart. —Communication with the Kurauoi Tunnel has been delayed a lit tic as the pass going down from the one hundred and thirty foot level has come into a very hard bar of ground, and progress has in consequence been somewhat delayed. The pass is put down from the end of the drive at the abovenamed level, and is so constructed that it bo divided into three compaiiinents, and will form the permanent outlet for the stone from the upper levels. It is within a few feet of the side of the tunnel and yesterday evening, when some shots were' fired in the pass they dislodged a little stuff from the side, so that they are pretty close. We observed yesterday that a number of men have slaiicd to fill in the company’s machine site with the mullock which lias been discharged from the various claims working in the hill. The crushing at the battery is shaping well, and another good yield may be looked for. The want of air in the tunnel is now very severely felt, and the opening of the pass into it is most anxiously looked for by the contractors. Inverness. —The winze is now down to a depth of forly feet on the lode, and the stone from it is being delivered at the battery, together with that fiom the stopes. A good-sized paddock of stuff is already on hand, and crushing will take place as soon as one of the batteries is vacant. Cure. —Some very nice gold-bearing stone lias been taken from the heart of the lode where it is worked on, ond the Clashing at the Prince Alfred Battery is still looking well, though the appearance of the stuff being put through would not impress one with the idea of iio being of very much value. However, the amalgam taken from the plates proves that the gold is there. Shotover. —The crushing of the trial lot of stone from the leader cut in the lowest level will probably be completed

to-day. The lode is evidently 4lie same as that cut near the bottom of the shaft, a parcel of which was crushed some time since, and the yield will probably be about the same.
