THE WHITAKER AND LUNDON CLAIMS.—DECISION AGAINST THE CLAIMANTS. WELLINGTON. Monday. Judge Johnstone, as Commissioner in the Whitaker and Lundon claims for compensation, to-day asked whether Messrs Whitaker and Lundon intended to appeal. lie was informed that the claimants would do so if the decision were unfavourable. After further argument the Judge delivered judgment against the claimants, Messrs Whitaker and Lundon, on the ground that the words of the interlocutory order implied the repeal of the 7Gth section of the Native Lauds Act, 1865. He said he gave judgment only to enable the claimants to proceed further in the Appeal Court, otherwise be would have considered further before deciding. He bad great doubt and hesitation in dismissing the claim.

Tuesday. It is announced that the application by St. John’s College, Auckland, to be affiliated, is postponed for consideration. An official enquiry into the case of the England commences to-morrow. The Council of the University lias decided that scholarships are to be held ono year only, but students may retain them for two years on satisfactory proof of each year’s progress being satisfactory.
