MINING.
Moanataiari. —The clean np for the past fortnight has far exceeded the good estimate that was formed of it whilst going on. Yesterday one thousand and six ounces of gold were lodged, and there are twenty more ounces to come, so that the total will be one thousand and twentysix ounces for the fortnight. The previous return of seven hundred and fifty ounces added to this, give a total yield for the month of seventeen hundred and seventy•ix. We were not far wrong when we remarked, some time since, that the prospects of the company were improving, and we expect that the directors will now find themselves in a position to pay a dividend. They ought to be able to do this, we imagine, as for several months past the yields have been good and steadily increasing:
Alburnia. —One hundred and seventyfive ounces of gold were lodged yesterday, a 8 the result of the past ten clays’crushing at the company’s own mill. Though the return is not a rich one, it must be considered satisfactory, as a great deal of the stone crushed was very inferior in quality. George Stevenson. —The crushing for this company was finished yesterday afternoon, but. the return will not bo in until to-day. Owing to the specimens, which were expected to yield heavily, turning out so poorly, the return will not be what was expected. We dare not estimate the quantity, as that sort of thing is dangerous now-a-days, being so often wide of the mark.
