Dunedin. Mr Barton has commenced an action against the Dunedin Daily Times , claiming £I,OOO expenses in the late telegram libel case.
Wellington. H.M.s. Rosario has arrived.
The Tiiuaru and Christchurch coach capsized in crossing the Rangitika river, Garron. Two passengers were killed. Westport. A lo;t of nuggets were found in alluvial ground, Bushman’s Creek, Lyell, near the Butler. They weighed 280 z., Boz., 150 z., and two 12oz. each. They were got by a party working a few hundred yards below the Excelsior Company’s Claim. The nuggets were sold to the Bank of New Zealand.
Dunedin.
Messrs Clark and Thomson’s timber yard is almost totally destroyed by fire. It was insured in the New Zealand Insurance Company’s office for £I,OOO, and in the Liverpool and London for £2,000.
