MINING.
There is evidently an improvement in mining matters, and things have decidedly an upward tendency. The Caledonian have got 3cwt. of good specimens, making 12cwi. altogether. The City of London have just commenced crushing, and the return promises to be highly satisfactory.
The result of the week's crushing for the Tokatea is 140 oz. from 95 tons. Although this is not so large a return from this mine as some that have preceded it, yet it is satisfactory. The Abraham Lincoln, on the Upper Karaka, has crushed JO tons at Vickery's Battery, with a result of >S3uz. IGdwt. 18 gr. They will commence to crush again shortly at the Lucky Hit Machine, which is now being put in order for them. They have 40 tons of promising looking stuff in the paddock.
The Evening Star tribnters have resigned their tribute into the hands of the company. One or two of the directors went over the workings yesterday, and were quite satisfied with the appearance of the ground. The mine has been well opened by the tribnters, who have left a large block of the lode ready for stoping. The company will put on hands, and resume woik immediately. The Manukau Machine is in full work again —ls head for the sianuk.au tribnters.
lU head for the Poverty and Charleston trihuters. and 10 head for the Imperial Crown tributers (Golden Hill). Tiie City of Dl'xepix have a crushing at Bussell's Battery. The stuff looks poor, and is estimated to yield from sd\vt. to G lwt. to the ton.
Tiie Ali. Nations contemplate making a tramway to the Kuranui Battery, to facilitate the crushiugs, instead of carting from tne tunnel.
The Central Italy - commenced sinking on Monday. There is very little water, the engine working splendidly.
