ARRANGEMENTS BETWEEN MR. VOGEL AND TIIE AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT.
THE MINISTRY ARE FAVOURABLE TO SUBSIDISING THE LINE.
Melbourne. —March 14 : The Hon. J. Vogel and Mr Wehh have again interviewed the Government with reference to the Californian mail service. Modified proposals were submitted and were favourably entertained. The details will not he made public now till submitted to Parliament. An agreement lias been signed between the contracting parties. Messrs Vogel and W*bb were entertained at dinner. Commercial and shipping interests were influentially represented. Further concessions in reference to Customs drawbacks have been promised to the delegation by the Commissioner of Customs. The regulation will facilitate intercolonial trade. Flour is quoted at £l2 15s to £l3 10s. Sugars are firm.
Queensland. —March 14 : There are still 43 of those who left with the New Guinea expedition missing.
Adelaide. —March 14 : Sales of wheat lave been made at from 5s 4d to 5s Gd.
