Napier. —Thursday : A f*w days ago Te Xooti came out of the bush and communicated with the natives at Mohaka, applying for food. He has witli him six men, one woman, and one boy. Captain Ferries set out on bis trail, and in marching on Mohaka met with a small party from Poverty Bay. liopata and another small party, all approaching from different directions, were in pursuit of Te Kooti w’hen the despatch left Mohaka. The rebel was nearly* surrounded. The country is densely wooded. At the Government land sale at Napier to-day £3,000 were realised. Mr Neill’s farm and buildings at Balclutha have been burned. The loss is estimated at £990, and the buildings were insured for £550 in the Australian Alliance Insurance office.

Christchurch. —Thursday : Excellent arrangements have been made for the Colonial Prize-firing. The highest score in the first set was 44, and the second set 46. Mr Tavares, Miss Surtees, Mr Hoskins, and Miss Colville have united, and are playing at the theatre to large houses. The regatta has been postponed in consequence of the sudden death of Macfarlane, of the Canterbury Club crew. Mr Maning, of Auckland, has received a testimonial as a recognition of Ins upright and sportsmanlike conduct whilst in Christchurch.

Greytown. —Thursday: At an inquest upon the fire at the Tauherenikau Hotel the evidence showed that the fire originated in the storeroom.

Bluff. —Thursday : The s.s. Alhambra lias arrived from Melbourne, and is the hearer of the English mail. Mr Cracroft Wilson is a passenger by her.
