SONS OF FREEDOM GOLDMINING

COMPANY (LIMITED). The first annual meeting of shareholders was held on Friday, the 15th instant, at the office, Canada Buildings, Queen-street, when the balance-sheet and directors’ report for the year ending February 29,were read and adopted. Full reports from the company’s surveyer and mine manager, containing details of the work completed and in progress, were also read to the meeting. The total expenditure for the year was £1307 18s 2d, nearly one-half of which was on account of the main low level tunnel, which is being entered from the bed of the Monnataiari Creek. This tunnel is now in 47G feet, and when completed will give 400 feet of hacks for stuping on the reef. In the meantime, a large block of ground has been opened on the intermediate levels, from which 120 tons of quartz have just, been crushed, giving an average of 1-Joz. to the ton. The surveyor reported that there were about 2000 tons in this blo'-k, and that crushing would now he continued without intermission until the whole was reduced. The retiring directors—Messrs Dixon, Owen, Marks, DuMoulin, and Noswnrthy —were re-elected, and Mr Charles Alexander was appointed auditor for the ensuing year.— Herald.
