ALBERTLAND NORTH
The usual monthly meeting of our Society I was held on the27ih February, at the rei sidencc of Mr M. W. Armstrong, but it was i ratiier thinly attended, —perhaps owing to the unavoidable absence of the president, who should have read a paper on “ Town and Country.” A correspondence from the Educational Board having been read, stating that the application made for a : grant for a teacher’s house was informal, ; on account of its not being made by a | local committee. —It was then resolved to call a public meeting to considcrllie affair, and elect a School Committee.—The subject of the Highways Empowering Act was then laid before the meeting. Several clauses were read, but No. 6 was the one considered to bo the most important. They all believed that (lie only effect of tin's clause would he the upsetting of district boards, in that it would bring the rating to such a low rate, it would be impossible to collect it ; finally it was resolved to advertise, inviting all districts to co-operate with us in assisting the repealing of this very objectionable clause.—On account of the continuous procrastination in erecting the Ilall the meeting determined to try and do something to forward the same, and empowered the building committee to order the necessary timber.—The thanks of the meeting were given to Mr Barrett, for liis untiring zeal in commenting and supporting this association, as he is leaving this district.— Herald.
