THE ALLEGED FRAUDS BY A BARONET’S SON.
At the Mansion House.-yesterday, Michael David Sibbalo Scott, twenty-two, son of Sir Sibbald Scott, and Daniel Kert Price, .80, a clerk, were charged on remand with obtaining jewellery, valued at £BOO, from Mr Frodsham, watchmaker and jeweller, Gracechiirch-strcet, by false pretences. Mr Henry Sully, assistant to Mr James Attenborough, pawnbroker, deposed to making an advance to a person who gave the name of Howe on one of the watches supplied by Air Frodsham. Air Padmore, wine merchant, Gracechurch street, deposed to receiving another of the watches in payment of a debt of £lO for wine, due by the prisoner Scott. Air C. B. Elliott, the solicitor, to whom the reference had been given, said he told Air Frodsham Air Bcott had no income except what he had from his father. Mr Scott told witness his income was £‘2ooo a year, and lie believed him. Some days ago Air Scott sent him a set of studs. That morning Scott was to have sent him £lO to pay for some searches. He sent the studs instead witliout any note, and witness put them into liia safe where they remained until this morning.
Air Lewis then addressed the Court on behalf of Scott, and urged that there was no evidence against him, as lie personally made no representation as to his income. Air Lewis then called Sir Sibbald David Scott, on behalf of his son, the prisoner Scott. lie said that during the past twelve months ho had paid for him debts amounting to £SOOO or £OOOO. He allowed him a fixed income of £2OO a year. Besides paying his debts, lie had during the year given him £2OOO through an agent, and
the defendant, had also received large presents from his mother. The prisoners were then removed in custody, the Lord Mayor declining to admit them to bail. They yvill lie brought up again at this Court next week, when ii is stated that the other charges will be proceeded yvitli against Scott. — The Eelm.
