A WARNING TO MINERS.
To tho Editor of the Thames Gcaruiax. Sir, —Seeing in the daily papers a report of an alluvial gold discovery between Mercury Bay and Wliangariiata, East Coast, 1 happen to know something about it—it is adjoining my place at Tairtia—and I would inform your readers there is Hothing in it at present to warrant a rush. We have been aware for some time of the existence of gold, and I myself have found the colour there on several occasions. But it was in quartz, and required great outlay even to prospect. Seine, 110 doubt, will have a lively' recollection of the Clippem Rush three or four years ago. However, if parties will not heed this caution, they must go prepared to encounter a rough country where few stores exist, no work is to be found, and they must have plenty of money in their pockets to pay expenses. And, weigh this well : should they hit upon a Caledonian, they must not forget it is outside the boundary of the goldfields, or native land like Oiiincmuri; and they cannot get protection.—l am, &c., Geo. Graham, January 26, 1872.
