“ Otiikij.o ” was played at this house on Saturday night. Tlie pit was well filled, but wc were surprised to see very few in front. Mr Tavares as lago wc were anxious to see, and having seen him, wo arc perfectly satisfied that lie can play it, and well too. His rendering of the part was equal to his acting, and his acting was equal to his rendering, and both were immense. Othello was played by Mr Perrier, one of our local amateurs, and we must give him great praise for undertaking such an arduous task at so short a. notice. For an amateur to play Buch a character as Othello right through, vind to play it remarkably well is a thing not often witnessed. His playing in the third act was great, and received some wellmerited applause. Mrs AValtor- Hill «r Desdeinona playod with her usual grace and her rendering of tlie part brought out her great powers as a first-class artiste. The other parts were remarkably well sustained. Mins Surtees as Einelia, and Mr Keogh as Cassio, evidently having a thorough knowledge of their parts, and playing them well. Mr Jones announced that he was going to Auckland to play for a short season, but that he would soon revisit the Thames with another company,, having entered into an engagement with the Zavistowski Sisters, and in all probability Signor Donati, tlie wonderful oneleggcd dancer, would also, appear in a. ishort time.
