THAMES MUNICIPALITY.
A meeting of the Municipality Committee was held at the Pacific Hotel orrSaturday afternoon.
Present: Dr Kilgour, in the chair, and Messrs Tyler, Goodall, Perston, Heron, Swan, D«an, Lloyd. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.
Mr Goodall said he had been over the boundar}' as amended, commencing at Tararu Creek, and going back from the road a chain and a half, skirting the hills, and when reaching Grahamstown, keeping the boundaries of that township and of Shortland as defined. This would take in Tookeys and Golden Crown Batteries. The Chairman said lie thought it would be desirable to include a small portion of the bills at the rear of Grahamstown, for sanitory purposes. Mr Swan said lie understood there would lie opposition from block 27, and from Parawai.
On the motion of Mr Heron, seconded by Mr Swan, the name of Mr Gibbons was added to the committee.
It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Swan, seconded by Mr Heron, that Messrs Goodall, Perston, and Dean should accompany Mr Goodall, and walk over the boundaries as now proposed, so as to fix certain positions which are easily recognisable by the committee.
In reference to signatures to the petition, Mr Dean said the signatures would have to be re-signed.
# The Chairman said he thought all who signed for the large area would for the smaller one.
Mr Tyler said not perhaps necessarily in all cases, for a man might say that his object in supporting the large area was to spread taxation over n greater number, and therefore making it less for each. The meeting then adjourned until Wednesday next, at 4 o’clock.
A meeting of residents on the Moanataiari Creek was held on Saturday evening at tlio Grand Junction Hotel. Mr Jury was voted into the chair, and explained that the object of the meeting was to take steps to protest against joining the Municipality, which would subject them to extra taxation, and confer no corresponding benefit. He had no objection to Grahamstown and Shorthand having a Municipality, hut it aras not wanted on the Moanataiari. He was informed that a meeting had been held at the Pacific Hotel that afternoon, when it was resolved to alter the boundaries so as not to include the residents beyond the base of the hills. Therefore very little remained to be done; but in order to show that they were earnest in this matter he would move the following resolution “ That this meeting of the inhabitants on the Moanataiari Creek resolves tliat it is desirable to appoint Mr Inglis and Mr Loom a committee to represent this district, and to co-operate with the Shellback, Tararu, and other committees to define tile boundaries of the Municipality.” The resolution was put and carried unanimously, and the meeting terminated witli a vote of thanks to the chairman.
