FIRE AT THE WATERWORKS.
Either l>y accident or design, the fern and scrub'about the flutning which conducts the water from the dam into tlm filtering-tanks was set on fire at on early hour yesterday morning, in three or fou r places. If it has been wilfully set on tiro, it has been done with the evident determination of destroying the trestles and fluming. The man in charge of the limning, assisted by others, had great trouble yesterday in preventing the fire from reaching and destroying the works. At one time iie had to shut the water off from the town altogether, so as to allow the overllow of the water to saturate the woodwork as much as possible. He left the works at dark last night perfectly safe, and the fire along the line of limning entirely out.
