At the Theatre Koval last night “ Hamlet” was produced with a very good east, and was a decided success. The back portion of the house was well filled, but we arc sorry to say that the stalls were poorly patronised, and we feel sure that those who did not go lost 'a; treat, for a treat indeed it was to witness a little of the legitimate drama. Mr Tavares’ Hamlet was well played, there being nothing of the rant in his rendering of the part, and lie was well supported by the rest, of the company. Mrs Keogh played the Queen in a. natural and graceful manner, and we must congratulate this lady on her great improvement since we first had the pleasure of seeing her play at Ihe Thames. The same bill will be presented to night. There was but a tliiu house at the Academy of Music last evening, to witness the pantomime entitled, “ Life in the South, or Harlequin Secesh and Columbine True blue.” which was. nevertheless, very amusing, and deserving of better support. A very exciting niVair came off yesterday at the Shorihuid Wharf. The warm interest taken by the Government in this goldfield was fully manifested by the promise made by that gentleman that the public works undertaken by the Government would he commenced in this district within a few weeks ; as well as by the wise suggestion made by him to the deputation, respecting the formation of a highway^district, and the. consequent institution of a highway board.” "
