AUSTRALIAN HARVEST PROSPECTS.
(‘ AUSTRALASIAN,’ DEO. 16.) Until the effect of the recent rains has been reported, it will be unsafe to speculate upon the probable results of harvest. In some cases, especially where the crops are very late, they will bo benefited very considerably, but many of the more forward crops have been laid, and where they are heavy, as on deep rich flats, the character of the weather for the next 10 days will be a matter of great importance." We are disposed to augur favourably of the majority of the wheat crops, but from several out-growing districts we hear of crop presenting an unfavourable appearance. Barley is turning out better than the usual average ; bad weather may vet alter the colour and quality, but the yield is said to be good. The great heats and sultry weather have been general, and as the rains have since been experienced in all localities whence reports could have arrived, the growtn of pasturage has been wonderfully great. Tho early potatoes, however, have been forced into a new growth before the skins have properly net.
