CRICKET.

THE LAW v. THAMES CRICKET CLUB.

The above match was played on the Club ground, Sliouland, and a most pleasant match, it was.cvciyone enteringthoroughly into the spiiit of the game. The Legal men shaped very well indeed, considering that nearly a l l of them have not played for many years. Their batting, of coio-se, could not be expected to be veiy good, luit in the field several did remarkably well. Macdonald first at point and afterwards at mid-on, Baltner at long leg and mid-oil, Miller at ditto ditto, and Tyler as long-stop, were all very good indeed. Bafmcr made two veiy good catches, and though the number of byes is large, the ground is very bad indeed for a man out of practice. Barnett and Lascelles bowled for the Legal men, the former getting three, and the latter seven wickets, and we think that their captain made a great mistake in taking Lascelles off towards the end of the innings, Bull and Jackson sewing about 20 runs oil the change. The T.C.C. were the li’-st to take the bat, Pulleinc and Maddock facing tiie bowlers. Lascelles quickly sent the former home for U, and Robinson joined Maddock, and runs were made quickly for some time, until Robinson gave Baliner a chance, which was well held at mid-off. Crawford next came, hut was sent home with an L.B.W. to his name. Warded, who was next hit about in all directions, and scon increased the score considerably. Maddock was next howled by Lascelles for a carefully-played 18, all well got. Alpc knocked his wicket down, and had to retire for 0. Samles was next, and after getting 1 was given out 1. b. w. off Lascelles’s howling. Gcllion and Beere made one between them, and Warded was caught by Baliner, at mid-oil’, after putting together 2fi in a short time. Bull scoicd 1(1 before Barnett got his wicket, and Jackson was not out for 4. With

byes, wides, &c., the total of the T.C.C. was 110. Newby and Macdonald were the first to show up for the legal team, but did not stay long, in fact they went out one after the other, no one getting into the double ligure. Barnett made the most 7 which lie got in two hits, and the total of their innings was IG. They went in again after a -shcrrt interval, Newberry, who was not eut before, rid Lascclles commencing. They got on well for a slioit time, until Lascclles, in playing forward to one of Bull’s, lost his wicket, the hall shooting. lie got out in an exactly similar way the first time. Newberry got 11 before lie was run out. Tyler and Benner did not r Id any to the score, and Barnett joined Macdonald, who was playing well. The latter was bowled by Aladdoclc, after getting a well-played 13, and Alston joined Barnett. Time was shortly aiker called, Barnett having scored 15 not out out. The total, with 5 wickets down, was 50. Alpe’s long-stopping was splendid, only three halls getting away from him in both innings; and Aladdock’s bowling was very successful, indeed, he getting G wickets to his credit, Crawford taking the other two. A return match is, wc understand, to be played shortly. Tho following is the score : Thames Cricket Cluii.
