MINING.

Prince Imperial. —The crushing of 11 tons of stone from this mine, just finished at the Waiotahi battery, lias yielded 33ozs. of good amalgam, which will retort about one-third gold, so that the return may be looked on as an ounce to the ton. This is a decided improvement on any of the previous crushing. l ?, the stuff being taken from the small leader lately cut in the workings. Albuenia. —The am-.lgam from the crushing for this company at the Herald battery was retorted yesterday, and gave the excellent return of 180ozs. lodwts. of melted gold, from about 80 tons put through. \Ye are credibly informed that there are a few hundred tons of quartz to grass on the claim, which may be expected to yield nearly, if not quite as well as this parcel. If this be the fact, where was the reason for making such a very heavy call as the directors have now made. They must be cognisant of the fact that such is really the case, and if it be so, a few more such crushings as have just taken place would soon clear off all debt, nnd leave a balance in favour of tho company. Crushing will be continued for some time to come, and wo hope to have to chronicle more good yields. Alburnia Tribute.—Aboul 100 tons of stono crushed for these tributers, at Weston’s, have given a return of 990 z. t-ldwt., or an ounce to tho ton. The yield is considered satisfactory. Bellmont. —A meeting of shareholders was held yesterday afternoon, at the Governor Bowen Hotel. Thirteen share- | holders were present. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. The legal manager read the directors’ report and Ihc balance-sheet, which was audited, and both were passed. It was moved “ that the directors bo requested to declare all shares forfeited on which due notice of non-payment of calls lias been given, at the first meeting of directors.” This motion was carried. It was resolved “ that a call of 3d per share bo made, and Ihat if it be not jiaiil within one month, directors be recommended to let part of the mine on tribute.” Tho following gentlemen were elected directors: —Messrs Ledger, Hannan, lleighway, Glasgow, and Baker. Standard. —The crushing just finished at Vickery’s machine for this company has resulted in a return of 230 z. 12dwt. 12gr. incited gold. The quantity of stone, crushed is not to hand, but the yield is a good one. Nonpareil. —l7oz. lodwt. of gold were lodged to the credit of the company by the manager yesterday evening. Caledonian. A large quantity of specimen stone has come from the run within the last few days, the strong box being now “ chock full,” and as it is supposed to bold SOcwt., there must be about that quantity now on hand. Some of the stones arc very rich, and the whole together will yield well when crushed. Shares yesterday' were in good demand for some time at £4O, buyers being plentiful at that price, but towards evening the demand eased off. There was no change of importance in any other part of the mine up to last evening. Tiie gold in the face of tho reef at the old spot is looking very well, and more stone will be broken out before the end of the week, so that if the specimens are crushed, a good week’s return will be to band. Town '(ls the Otago ground, in the low level, the reef is reported as looking very well, there being a good solid, body of stone in this direction.
