BOAT RACE.
Yesterday morning the match between Dalton’s Fiery Cross and Connor’s Alary Anne was pulled. The stakes were £lO aside, and the course from the Avliarf to Shellback Creek, thence round one of the posts in the channel back to the Avliarf. A little before 11 o’clock a good start Avas made, and from the very first Dalton’s boat began to draw gradually ahead, rounding the first boat several lengths ahead. When about half-Avay back to the Avliarf, the Alary Anno must have been eight or nine lengths behind, avlicii to the astonishment of everyone, she turned her head towards the beach, and retired from the contest, IcaA’ing the other boat to pull tho course at their leisure. Before starting the Alary Anne Avas considered to have a fair chance of the race, on account of the smoothness of the Avatcr, Avliich is more suitable to her than a rough sea. but the men Averc evidently overmatchcil from the start.
