THEATRE ROYAL.
There was a fair although not a crowded house at the Theatre Royal last evening, when a most attractive programme was put before the audience. The first piece was “My Wife’s Lover,” or “ Paris in 1795, in which Mr Hoskins appeared as Citizen Sangfroid, Miss Colville as Pauline, and Mr Clinton as Alphonse de Grandier ; and it is almost needless to say that their parts were admirably sustained. This was followed by selections from Sheridan’s celebrated “ School for Scandal.” Mr Hoskin’s appearing as Sir Peter Teazle, and Miss Colville as Lady Teazle, the evening’s performance concluded with the laughable piece entitled “ Nothing to wear,” in which Mr Hoskins, Miss Colville, and Mr Johnson sustained the characters of Dicky Sharp, Betsy Smart, and Tom Tit respectively. The evening’s entertainment was diversified by Mr Clinton’s inimitable Negro eccentricities and songs, and his far-famed bones solo. The same bill of fare will be repeated this evening, and its excellence should command a bumper house.
