COAL FROM THE MIRANDA.
A further parcel, of some 12cwt, of the coal found on Mr Foot’s farm, on the opposite shores of the Hauraki Gulf, has been brought over here for a further trial. They have driven fifteen feet into the seam, and are not yet through it. The present parcel seems to bo a great improvement on the former one, as far as the quality is concerned. Three bags have been taken by Messrs Raithby and Muir, who intend to test it thoroughly at their machine. A sample is on view at Messrs AVildman and McDonnell’s office, Brown-street, to whom application can bo made by parlies having appliances for testing the value of the find, when a small quantity will be supplied. This valuable addition to our local produce is, we are glad to find, likely to attract the attention of those interested in these matters, aud we feel sure that such a mine of wealth will not he allowed to lie idle at our very doors. The coal can be very easily worked, and brought over to Grahamsto .vu at a cost far below that at present in use on the field.
