THAMES REGATTA.

A COMMITTEE meeting of the Thames Regatta took place last evening at the Pacific Hotel. Present :—Messrs J. J. Fitz Gibbon, Cooke, Wallnutt, D. Simpson, Muir, C. Curtis, P. Davies, Jones, and Captain Best. A deputation of three persons from the Shorthand Regatta Committee waited upon the Grahamstown committee with a view of obtaining an amalgamation, but after a good deal of discussion, Captain Butt (one of the deputation) said from what he could gather from the seutiments expressed, was that the Grahamstown committee was quite willing to join the Shortland committee, but would not join in the Shortland regatta. The meeting having stated that such were their views of the subject, the deputation withdrew. The committee then proceeded to transact the business before the meeting. Subscription lists to the nmonnt of £GB 2s (id were received. Mr Ciias. Curtis suggested that a benefit should be given in the Academy of Music to augment the funds of the committee. He would give the use of the theatre free. Mr Curtis also offered the use of the Grahamstown wharf to the committee. He thought that the outer end of the pier might be covered over with a canvass top, providing the wind would allow of such, and that seats be placed underneath, with a band to play at intervals, and that persons going on that section of the wharf should be charged Is, the whole of the proceeds of which should he devoted to the regatta funds. He would guarantee a sufficient number of scats if the committee would get the other things. Mr Cooke proposed that Mr Curtis’s generous offer be accepted, which was agreed to. The committee tlion arranged the programme and fixed the prizes, amounting in all to £lO4. The rules used for the Auckland regatta were adopted with few alterations. The previous programme was revised and altered on the motions of Mr Cooke and others, and after a few other preliminaries had been arranged, the meeting adjourned.
