THE UPPER TARARU ROAD.
Dr Sam, M.P.C., received yesterday the following memorandum from the Goldfields Secretary:— “ Your requisitions in the above mattev have received their full weight, and it is intended to carry out the road in a substantial manner, as requested by the parties interested. Proper provision has been made on the estimates for the purpose, and it only requires the sanction of the Council to start the work. Tenders will be called for the work within a fortnight after the vote is taken. “ (Signed) John Siieeiian, “Auckland, December 13, 1871.” A meeting of the committee appointed at the recent public meeting at the Governor Bowen Hotel, was held yesterday afternoon, at the office of Mr A. B. Bain, when the following resolution was passed :—“ That the thanks of our committee be conveyed to Dr Sam, James Mackay, junior, Esq., .and the other goldfields members for their attention in bringing the prayer of the petition adopted at the public meeting to a successful issue.”
