THAMES HOSPITAL.
To the Editor of tho Thames Guardian*. Silt, —In compliance with the request of your correspondent “ Observer,” 1 would suggest that if a public recreation ground be allotted to us, it would lie well for any new extension of hospital buildings to be erected thereon, because such a site would be more suitable for eases of sickness, affording (lie patients an opportunity of witnessing their friends at any sports or amusements, and at the same time the immense advantage of pure air. At the same time, I would point out that, inasmuch as tho present hospital i.: situated centrally amidst a mining community, constantly subject to accidents, it should ever be retained for the reception of injured miners, because every inch a man is carried when recently injured diminishes the chance of safety ; but when by prompt surgical sail! on the spot a patient is out of danger, he could he transferred to the country hospital. It cost many thousands of pounds, an . much litigation and legislation to si.cur such a plan for St. Thomas’s Hospital London, but the public at last wen; d mined to have it, and they did.—l am, Augustus G. Merkett, .\i .
