PUBLIC RECREATION GROUND.
A meeting of the sub-committee of the local Highway Boards, was held yesterday morning, when communications were addressed to his Honor the Superintendent and the goldfield members, calling their attention to the resolutions passed at the meeting yesterday, relative to a public recreatiou ground at the Thames. The necessity of apiece of ground being obtained in a suitable locality, and dedicated to the public use for the purpose of general recreation, Volunteer parades, &c., as well as an eligible site for a cemetery is becoming more apparent every day, and another fact is also patent, that eligible pieces of land are likely becoming scarcer as buildings increase, and the township extends. There arc yet, however, we understand, some pieces of Crown land and others which may be obtained from the natives in the neighborhood of Parawai which may be deemed suitable. The great difficulty in the way is,—as is almost always the case, the want of money. We hope that the Provincial authorities, and the Council, will sec their way to making a suitable provision for this much needed want.
