Melbourne, November 4. The 1 Colonial Empire’ has arrived with Government immigrants. She lias been put into quarantine for a few days.—New gold diggings -have been, opened in the western districts, -near Hamilton.—The Alfred-Hospital Bazaar realised £2,500. — The Parliamentary Eleven won the cricket match against the Press Eleven. —The Customs Bill lias been reconsidered by the Council, and passed.—Mining speculation is quieter.—New Zealand wheat has been • sold at auction at ss. Flour is £l3, and 'wheat 6s.—Sugars have advanced £1 per ton.—Tookey : There arc sellers at £25 land buyers at £23.—The Customs Bill lias passed the Council.—New hops have been sold to arrive at 2s 3d to 2s 4d, from samples received by the mail. Sydney, November 4. Captain Bonnet, of the ‘Aurora,’ has been committed to trial for flogging a seaman.—A woman named Jane Delvine has been sentenced to death for infanticide.— The Bank of New South Wales has declared a dividend of 10 per cent,—White sugars are advancing.—Tookey :'£2s 53 to £2l 10s. Adelaide, November 4. A large lire occurred at Messrs. Solomon and Cousins’. The loss is covered by insurance.— Charles White, midshipman, fell from the royal crosstrees of the ‘ Yatala,’ and was killed. —Flour, £lO 10s to £ll ; wheat, 4s 7d.—Sailed—‘Mary, for Hokitika.—The deficiency in the revenue according to the budget speech, is £76,000, It is proposed to make up the deficiency by a stamp duty.—The wheat market is firmer.
