MINING ACCIDENTS.

To tllC Editor of the THAMES GUARDIAN. Sir, —Asthe number of mining accidents on this field are on the increase, and having heard that when the accident occurred at the Inverness on Thursday last, a man was sent to the Hospital to procure a stretcher, which, owing to the loss of time in going, and returning, uncccssarily increased the sufferings of the injured man. I beg to offer the following suggestion which, if approved of, and carried out, will, I think obviate the recurrence of unnecessary delay for the future. I would suggest that every Battery on the field be supplied with a stretcher of approved and comfortable construction, t' e expense to be brrne by the hospital fund, or what would be more generous, if not more just, than to let battery owners and crushing companies provido them at their own cost.

My reason for mentioning batteries as the most fitting place to keep this requisite at, is unexceptionable, as they are open day and night, and are generally in .known localities, and easy of access. In conclusion, I think it would be well that a committee of medical men, connected with the Hospital, be appointed to select some suitable pattern, and proceed at once with the matter, as comfort even in a stretcher while being carried over rough ground alleviates pain and suffering.—l am, &c., F. A. Pulleine.
