POLICE COURT.— Saturday.
(Before W. Fraser, Esq., R.M.) Abusive Language.— Mary Kelly was charged with using abusive language with intent to provoke Mary Darby. —The defendant denied the charge altogether.— The prosecutor stated that she is a married woman, residing at Grahamstown. —On the Gth instant the defendant was standing at the door of her own house in Davystreet, about 7 o’clock in the evening, and kept abusing witness for upwards of an hour, applying the most abusive epithets to her.—Peter Aro deposed to hearing Mrs Kelly make use of very bad language to Mrs Darby. The defendant, who said this case was all got up out of spite, was ordered to find two sureties of £lO to keep the peace for the next 3 months. Riding on the Footpath. —Thomas Edwards was charged with driving a horse on the footpath at Parawai, on the _23rd October. —The defendant pleaded not guilty. —Henry Stillwell, in the employ of the Parawai District Board, proved that on the day in question a horse belonging to defendant was on the footpath, and proceeded along it for about 150 yards, and over two wooden bridges. The defendant had apparently stopped at the Rob Roy, but afterwards ran out after the horse, and turned him into the road. —The R.M. dismissed the case. Vagrant Horses. —John Goodall was charged with allowing two horses to wander at large in Grey-street. The defendant said lie was unaware how the horses got out of the paddock, and he hoped nobody had opened tho gate for the purpose of making a job.—Fined ss. and costs.
