FUNERAL OF THE LATE JOHN BATEY.
The remains of the late John Batcy were conveyed to their last resting place on Saturday, and interred on the hill side, within sight of the spot where lie so nobly risked and lost his life in the heroic effort to save that of a fellow creature. The A.0.F., of which deceased was a member, mustered at the Home Institute to the number of about 80, and headed by the Volunteer band, playing the Dead March, the mournful procession wended its way towards the cemetery, followed by about 250 persons, who attended to pay this last tribute of respect to the memory of the departed. The service was read by the Rev. V. Lush, and the Foresters marched back to their lodge, head.d by the band. The report of the meeting held in the evening touching the relief fund will be found elsewhere in our columns.
