Instead of the usual lecture, the Rev. James Bullcr will to-night (Wednesday) deliver a sermon, in the Wesleyan Church, Grahamstown, having reference t > the melancholy death of the late Bishop Pattesou and his co-workers. The service to commence at 7.30 p.m. Thursday next being the anniversary of the Prince of Wales’ birthday, will lie observed as a general holiday at the Government olliccs, banks, Ac. Mr. P. Bonfield, we hear, is about to enter into a speculation which, we hope, will lie successful, by which'our streets will he watered during the summer. Mr. Bonfield has received liberal promises of support. A small sum from each householder in the main streets —say Is. per week, would pay well, and the advantages are so obvious as to require no comment. A friendly rillc match was fired at the Tarawa i Butts yesterday between Captain Barnett and Mr Pullciue. The wind was variable, and the result was in favor of Captain Barnett by 11 points. A meeting of the Masonic Ball Committee was held last evening, and all the preliminary arrangements were made. The hall is to be held in St. George’s Hall on St. Andrews day, the 30th instant, and will be carried out iu excellent style. A meeting of the Council of the lliflc Association was held last night, at which it was resolved that the next practice should take place ou the last Thursday in the month, at the Parawai butts. Ranges 300, 400, and 500 yards. Prizes will be given, and members will be handicapped. The linal arrangements for the match to be tired against the Greymouth Rifle Rangers ou Saturday next were also made. We understand that the L3OO for the rifle match between Mr Walker, of the Thames, and Mr Christie, of Dunedin, has been all subscribed.
